Team Business Development

A unique approach to rapid business transformation

Printing firm blends two work  offset printer                               cultures and saves £584,000.

TBD helped merge two distinct and conflicting cultures at a loss making commercial printing company.

The company had recently acquired a fine art printing firm and this had exposed major contrasts in sales approach, attitudes to quality, customer service and estimating.

As a result of this conflict in cultures there was a high degree of confusion and an unacceptable rise in mistakes, rework and missed deadlines.

Conflicts created by different styles of working produced inefficiency, waste and communication problems at every level.

TBD's cross-functional team planning workshops, bottom-up appraisal of the firm’s predicament and other planning procedures all helped harmonise the two cultures and galvanise enthusiasm. Closer cooperation and group problem solving as to the root cause of the many problems exposed by the appraisal enabled savings and benefits of £584,000 per year on a £3.8 million turnover.

InMartin Danielstead of having departmental rivalry, each department can now see that what they are doing may be causing a problem for other departments. They are now far more supportive of altering their own ways of doing things to assist the needs of other departments.

The sales and work order processing has definitely been speeded up. The information flow is now more accurate and so people aren’t doubling up work, by going back to get more data or having to rectify mistakes. To put this in perspective we are making estimated savings of something like £184,000 per year on a turnover of £3.8 million just from reduced reprints, improvements to estimating and billing, and a number of time savings.

Because people feel their ideas are being listened to I can see that they are much more motivated. People really feel the business is going places and want to be part of it.”

Martin Daniel, production director, BAS Fine Art Printers
